PLAN A TRIP

Part of the excitement of snowmobiling is the freedom to go anywhere that the groomed and marked trails will take you. While you must always be a responsible rider and follow all the laws, the fun part about this sport is the accessibility to ride where you wouldn’t otherwise be able to access by car or other all-terrain vehicles.

Planning a snowmobile excursion can be challenging. First, mother nature must cooperate and provide enough snow for the snowmobile clubs to groom the designated trails. Much of the trail system throughout the northeast is owned by residential landowners. These landowners generously grant permission to the snowmobile clubs to use their land as part of the trail system. The volunteer club members work hard to maintain and groom these trails, supported by funding from their states. One of the golden rules of riding on private land is to be respectful and stay on all marked trails. Landowners have the lawful right to shut down the path upon their land. When this happens, it can severely alter the routes to and from different destinations.

Knowing before you go is always a good idea when planning a trip. Knowing your destination and what services are available is vital. You should consider: Where and how do I register my snowmobile? How do I join a club? Does the hotel or lodging have ample parking for my snowmobile trailer? Where are the closest gas stations from the lodging facility and along the trail system? Where do we stop for supplies or groceries along the way? These are the kind of questions that GONE Snowmobiling can help answer and make planning your trip easy and worry-free.

If you have a specific question you can't find the answer to on this site, please feel free to contact us at any time – we're more than happy to help!

Massachusetts

In Massachusetts, the "snow belt" refers to regions that experience higher-than-average snowfall, typically due to their elevation and geographical location. This area is primarily in the western and central parts of the state, including the Berkshire Mountains, parts of Worcester County and beyond. The snow belt in these regions is influenced by factors such as elevation and proximity to the prevailing winter weather patterns that bring snow off the Great Lakes and through the Appalachian region. Snowfall in these areas can be substantial, providing ideal conditions for snowmobiling.

Riding in these regions offers a unique mix of benefits combining well-maintained trails with scenic views across forests, state parks, and historic monuments. This blend of natural beauty, paired with Massachusetts' strong network of snowmobiling clubs, fosters a sense of community through organized rides and local events. Consider riding in Massachusetts where there is a refreshing balance of adventure, nature, and community engagement.
